1 Dead in Bakersfield Multi-Vehicle Accident on State Route 119 and Coles Levee
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 1, 2023) – Wednesday morning, a disastrous 3-vehicle crash on State Route 119 and Coles Levee killed 1 person.
The crash occurred at about 5:29 a.m. in the area of State Route 119, east of Coles Levee.
According to reports, a Taft man drove a GMC 2500 eastbound on Taft Highway (119), east of Coles Levee at around 55 mph.
Meanwhile, a man from Bakersfield drove a Ford F-250 ahead of the GMC. He traveled in the opposite direction on Taft Highway at about 55 mph.
Also, a 56-year-old Bakersfield man drove a GMC Sierra 1500 westbound on Taft Highway, to the rear of the other Bakersfield driver, at an unknown speed.
For reasons still unknown, as the driver of the GMC Sierra came close to the driver of the Ford F-250, he let his vehicle veer to the left. Then, his car partially entered the westbound lane until it crashed into the front left side of the Ford and then collided head-on with the GMC 1500.
After the crash, the driver of the GMC 1500 suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Also, the authorities haven’t disclosed the identity of the deceased due to pending family notification.
Meanwhile, the other two drivers suffered major injuries and required hospitalization.
Also, the authorities do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
Furthermore, the authorities urged anyone with information to contact the California Highway Patrol, Buttonwillow Area office at (661) 764-5580.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
We want to send our sincere sympathies to the bereaved family and friends of the victim.
