Injuries Sustained in San Ramon Auto Accident on Interstate 680
SAN RAMON, CA (May 26, 2024) – Saturday, a disastrous 2-vehicle crash on Interstate 680 led to minor injuries.
Initially, the San Ramon Police Department described the situation as involving an armed and barricaded suspect on southbound Interstate 680. However, CHP later confirmed that no gun was found or seen during the incident.
Officer Tyler Hahn reported that when firefighters attempted to assist the driver of a 2012 Mini Cooper, the individual barricaded themselves inside the vehicle, claiming to have a gun.
The incident resulted in minor injuries, as confirmed by authorities.
At 5:53 p.m., CHP – Dublin issued an alert regarding a crash and “police activity” on southbound I-680 at Bollinger Canyon Road. Shortly after, the San Ramon Police Department announced a road closure near San Ramon Valley Road south of Bollinger Canyon due to the situation on I-680. Both the roadway and the freeway were closed as CHP managed the situation.
The traffic incident report indicated that the Mini Cooper, along with other vehicles, was involved in the crash. The Mini Cooper nearly hit a tree and ended up in bushes on the right-hand shoulder of the road.
By 6:30 p.m., authorities reported that CHP had detained the individual, and San Ramon Valley Boulevard was reopened, with the freeway set to follow shortly after.
San Ramon’s Chief of Police stated that their armored rescue vehicle was dispatched to the scene. Once announcements were made via the vehicle’s public address system, the suspect exited the car and was taken into custody by CHP Dublin officers.
Details regarding the reason behind the barricade and whether the suspect has been charged or their current location remain unclear.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
