Diego Villegas Dead, 3 Others Injured in Puyallup DUI Accident
PUYALLUP, WA (August 1, 2019) – A teenager identified as Diego Villegas died and three others were injured in a DUI crash on Tuesday, July 30.
Puyallup police said that the solo-vehicle crash in the 1900 block of West Stewart Street occurred at 1:25 a.m.
Authorities transported all four teens to local hospitals by Central Pierce Fire. The 16-year-old boy who drove the vehicle was in critical condition. He later died at the hospital and officials released his name as Diego Villegas.
Officials stated that the surviving teens are expected to be OK.
According to Puyallup police, the car traveled east on Stewart at a high rate of speed. Then Villegas attempted to pass another vehicle. He lost control and hit the tree. Investigators said he drove at least 50 mph over the speed limit in a 35 mph zone.
Puyallup Police Captain Portmann said that the teenagers are all boys ages 16 or 17. They had been at a house party where there were about a dozen teenagers. The homeowners were out of town and do not know that there was a party.
According to Portmann, speed and impairment were factors in the crash.
Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved loved ones of Diego Villegas.
