Kent Police Officer Fatally Injured in Line of Duty near West Meeker Street

 
KENT, WA (July 22, 2018) – A police officer was killed early Sunday morning and another officer was hospitalized following a car chase accident near West Meeker Street.
 
As per reports, the deadly collision took place at about 1:50 AM on Kent-Des Moines Road. A red pickup truck was being pursued by the police after gunshots were fired in the parking lot of Shari’s Restaurant. A police officer, later identified as Diego Moreno, was deploying a spike strip when he was struck by the patrol car chasing the suspect.
 
The police vehicle then collided with three parked cars before coming to a rest.
 
Moreno sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. The officer inside the patrol car was transported to the Harborview Medical Center and is expected to recover soon. Three bystanders were also injured in the crash, but it was not immediately known whether they were hospitalized.

The red pickup truck landed on a spike before striking a barrier a mile away from the scene. One person was taken into custody while two others reportedly fled on foot. They were later located and arrested by the authorities. Recent updates confirmed that all three suspects are now in police custody, but their identities have not yet been released.
 
No other information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
