Escondido Bicyclist Diego Mateo Dies Following Crash on 9th Avenue

 
ESCONDIDO, CA (March 29, 2021) – On Friday evening, Diego Mateo, 33, died following a bicycle crash on 9th Avenue and Spruce Street.
 
The fatal Escondido accident began with the victim riding his bicycle along 9th Avenue.
 
According to reports, Mr. Mateo swerved in the path of a vehicle driving westbound on 9th avenue.
 
The subsequent collision ejected the Escondido man from his bike, and he landed on the street.
 
Immediately following, the vehicle driver that struck Mateo called 911.
 
Shortly after, medical personnel transported Diego Mateo to Palomar Medical Center.
 
There, the bicyclist succumbed to the injuries he sustained by Spruce Street.
 
Ultimately, the Escondido Police Department continues to investigate the deadly crash.
