TULARE, CA (May 12, 2019) – Two women were killed in a suspected DUI crash Sunday night in Tulare, authorities said.
The crash took place around 6:40 p.m., on Road 60. Dispatchers arrived just South of Avenue 232 shortly after.
According to preliminary reports a 2006 GMC ran through a stop sign before striking a 2006 Pontiac, head-on.
Two occupants inside the Pontiac, identified as Diana Whitfield, 75, and Katherine Garges, 67, were both pronounced dead on scene.
Meanwhile, the driver of the GMC, 24-year-old Sergio Sanchez, was transported to a nearby hospital. He was allegedly suffering from major injuries as a result of the impact.
Sanchez was also later arrested by police on suspicion of driving under the influence. Police believe Sanchez was speeding on the rural road at approximately 70 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The CHP closed down Road 60 for roughly two hours to clean the surrounding area. An investigation is currently ongoing to determine further details.
