Injuries Reported in Orange Auto Accident on Chapman Avenue and Main Street
ORANGE, CA (June 3, 2023) – Tuesday afternoon, authorities arrested Deyanira Ignacia Carrasco after a hit-and-run crash on Chapman Avenue and Main Street.
The incident happened at around 4:15 p.m. on Chapman Avenue and Main Street, said Sgt. Phil McMullin of the Orange Police Department.
Officers confirmed that authorities charged the suspect with assault with a weapon on a police officer, failing to stop at a hit-and-run with injury, reckless driving during a police chase, driving against traffic in a police pursuit, and buying or receiving a stolen vehicle, all felonies.
According to reports, a police officer was notified from a license-plate reader of a stolen 2020 Nissan Altima.
Officers said that no one occupies the car at this time. However, the suspect entered it when she noticed the police car.
Then, she “took off in a hurry and hit a parked car and collided with the police car,” McMullin said.
McMullin added that Carrasco drove on the wrong side of the road at times on Chapman as she escaped.
Then, the officer began the chase. As Carrasco tried to make a wide turn to get on the (Orange ) 57 Freeway south, she lost control and t-boned a car, McMullin added.
As a result, the driver suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.
Then, officers found Carrasco hiding in some bushes nearby.
Meanwhile, Carrasco pleaded not guilty and the authorities ordered her to return to court on June 9 for a pretrial hearing. She was being held on $100,000 bail.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
