Dexter Chilton Killed after Head-On Crash on US 83 in Amarillo

Amarillo, TX (September 14, 2023) – Thursday morning, 86-year-old Dexter Chilton of Wellington died in a head-on crash on US 83.

The Amarillo crash happened around 6:45 a.m. on September 14, four miles south of Shamrock.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Chilton traveled north on the US-83.

When he moved into the southbound lane to pass the vehicle in front of him, his GMC Yukon collided with the 18-wheeler headed north.

The semi-truck driver tried to veer right and avoid Chilton’s vehicle, but there was not enough time.

Chilton died at the Texas crash scene.

No other information is immediately available.
