East Bay High School Title Team Player, Devon Willis Killed in Head-On Collision on Highway 4 in Stockton
Stockton, CA (June 26, 2020)– An alleged DUI collision on Highway 4 left the football player Devon Willis killed on Sunday night. The California Highway Patrol said that the collision was suspected to have been caused by an incident of driving under the influence.
The tragic incident occurred on June 21, Sunday just east of the Whiskey Road exit.
Devon Willis, 19, was pronounced dead at the scene after a vehicle crashed into his car. According to the report, the vehicle crossed the broken yellow lines on Highway 4 and collided with Willis’ car.
Willis was supposed to head home to see his family, said his friends who started a fundraising for him.
Meanwhile, the CHP did not identify the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision. CHP spokesman Ofcr. Ruben Jones said that the person was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Fundraising for Willis’ Burial
Analiese Almgren organized the fundraising for Willis. On the fundraising page, she said, Willis earned the nickname “Texas” as he played for the Lions after moving to Discovery Bay from Texas.
Willis was part of the 2017 Liberty team that won the first North Coast Section championship.
Furthermore, Almgren said that he was about to attend Diablo Valley College this fall and was also planning to play football.
The aim of the fundraising is to help Willis family to bring him back to Texas for his burial. In addition, its goal is to raise $15,000 and as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, it has raised more than $13,000.
