Devon Dabba Killed in San Juan Capistrano Accident
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA (March 25, 2019) — A man died after a vehicle struck him while he was running across the 5 Freeway on Friday, March 22.
According to Coroner’s Investigator K. Keyes, the Orange County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as 21-year-old Devon Dabba, a resident of San Juan Capistrano.
At around 8:45 p.m., a Kia struck Dabba while crossing the northbound San Diego Freeway at the Junipero Serra Road off-ramp, the California Highway Patrol stated.
Witnesses told the CHP that a tall, skinny juvenile boy, ran from the right shoulder to the center divider before a car hit him. Paramedics pronounced Dabba dead at the scene. It is still not determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
The driver of a 2003 Kia stayed at the area, the CHP said. Police have not cited anyone in the collision.
The CHP issued a 2-hour SigAlert for the HOV lane and lanes 1 and 2 of the freeway.
