Driver Injured after Solo Vehicle Crash on South Alvernon Way in Tucson

Tucson, AZ (September 27, 2023) – On Tuesday afternoon, 28-year-old Devin James Kilcoin died in a solo vehicle crash on South Alvernon Way.

The fatal crash happened on September 26. 

TPD and the Tucson Fire Department responded to the 7500 block of South Alvernon Way for a single-vehicle collision involving a white 2004 GMC C7500 Garbage Truck.

The GMC was heading northbound on South Alvernon Way when it began to drift toward the shoulder, according to detectives. The GMC began to swerve back and forth before flipping over and continuing north.

The passenger, Kilcoin, died at the crash scene. 

Meanwhile, the driver was transported to Banner-University Medical Center with serious injuries. 

It was determined that the driver was not impaired at the time of the collision. 

The GMC’s failure to reduce/control speed in order to prevent a collision is the primary known contributing factor to the crash. 

Detectives are currently looking into what prompted the vehicle to swerve before the crash. 

Further investigation into this crash is ongoing.
