3 Dead in Mountain Pass Auto Accident on 15 Freeway and Yates Well Road

MOUNTAIN PASS, CA (May 20, 2023) – Friday afternoon, a devastating traffic crash on 15 Freeway and Yates Well Road killed 3 people.

The incident happened at around 4:18 p.m. on the northbound 15 Freeway and south of Yates Well Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident involved a gray sedan and a white sedan.

Reports said that officers found the gray sedan on its side on the right-hand shoulder. Meanwhile, the white car was located in the middle of the lanes, with no one exiting either of the vehicles.

Moreover, officers confirmed that two occupants in a 2015 Toyota Camry were nonresponsive. Also, a possible engine was found in the middle of the road.

Due to the crash, the CHP issued a traffic break north of Bailey Road due to all lanes being blocked.

CalTrans responded and set up a hard closure on all three lanes.

Then, the authorities used a 4-hour Sig Alert at 4:58 pm.

Also, CHP logs noted that moderate rainfall was reported in the mountain pass area at 2:53 PM.

By 5:50 pm, the no. 1 and the no. 2 lanes had reopened.
