SAN DIEGO, CA (May 3, 2023) – Saturday morning, a devastating rollover crash on Interstate 805 and Division Street killed 1 person.

The incident happened at around 9:00 a.m. on Interstate 805, south of Division Street.

According to reports, a 75-year-old driver of a pickup drove south on the freeway. Then, he lost control of the pickup and went down an embankment, crashing into a light pole.

Eventually, the truck landed on the 43rd Street on-ramp south of Interstate 805.

Due to the impact, the driver and passenger who failed to wear seat belts were ejected onto the road of the on-ramp.

Then, the driver succumbed to injuries at the scene. His identity remained undisclosed due to pending family notification.

Meanwhile, the 59-year-old male passenger sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital.

Moreover, reports said that before the incident, a commercial vehicle towing a mini excavator traveled next to the pickup and “swaying back and forth.”

However, the CHP didn’t find the said vehicle. “A search for possible video and additional witnesses is ongoing,” reports said.

Meanwhile, the investigators do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

Furthermore, the authorities asked witnesses to call the agency at (858) 293-6000.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
