ANAHUAC, TX (February 7, 2024) – Monday afternoon, a woman died in a devastating pedestrian crash on State Highway 61 near Barrow-White Road.

The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on the side of State Highway 61 near Barrow-White Road.

Moreover, the sheriff’s office, deputies, and troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety all came to the scene. Then, they located two unresponsive people on the side of the road at the location. One woman was dead while another was in critical condition, lying on the side of the road.

“Through the initial investigation, it appears that a vehicle traveling southbound on SH 61, drove off of the roadway, colliding with the females that were out exercising. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene and has not yet been located,” the sheriff’s office revealed.

According to the investigation, the vehicle was likely a 2019-2024 model Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra with missing entirety of the passenger side mirror.

“There is a possibility that the suspect vehicle is white or silver; however, any pickup matching the description should be reported,” the sheriff’s office added.
