1 Dead in Oxnard Pedestrian Accident on Highway 101 and Vineyard Avenue

OXNARD, CA (March 10, 2024) – Friday night, a devastating pedestrian crash on Highway 101 and Vineyard Avenue killed 1 person.

The crash happened at about 9:16 p.m. on the northbound side of Highway 101, south of Vineyard Avenue.

Reports said that a man attempted to get across all freeway lanes, from the center divider to the east shoulder. Meanwhile, a 19-year-old Ventura man driving a 2003 Toyota Tundra pickup truck in one of the right lanes initially hit the male pedestrian.

Reports added that at least seven or more vehicles may have struck the man. Officers said that none of the drivers, including the Tundra driver, showed any signs of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Also, all involved vehicles stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Hence, the authorities made no arrests.

Officers added that the pedestrian succumbed to injuries at the scene. His identity remained undisclosed due to pending family notification.

CHP investigators haven’t determined whether the pedestrian was under the influence of any substances. They also haven’t determined why he was in traffic lanes.

Furthermore, the authorities urged any witnesses to contact the CHP’s Ventura-area office at 805-662-2640.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
