1 Person Dead in San Diego Traffic Accident on Interstate 5 near State Route 163

SAN DIEGO, CA (October 25, 2023) – Sunday night, a devastating multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 near State Route 163 killed one person.

The incident happened at around 8:29 p.m. on northbound Interstate 5, south of State Route 163.

According to Salvador Castro with the California Highway Patrol, a Nissan Versa struck a Nissan Altima that was blocking the middle lanes of Interstate 5 northbound for still unknown reasons. Then, four occupants of the Versa exited the vehicle after the crash and stood in the traffic lanes where a white BMW 428i sedan struck the Versa and two occupants of the Versa.

Moreover, officers confirmed that a 37-year-old Mexican national died in the crash. Then, paramedics transported two occupants of the Versa to a hospital with major injuries.

Furthermore, the crash blocked northbound Interstate 5 for two hours but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained at the scene. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
