1 Person Dead in Bakersfield Auto Accident on Mt Vernon Avenue and East California Avenue

BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 1, 2024) – Sunday afternoon, a devastating hit-and-run crash on Mt Vernon Avenue and East California Avenue killed one person.

The incident happened at around 2:21 p.m. on Mt Vernon Avenue and East California Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, two vehicles collided in the area for still unknown reasons. Then, one of the vehicles fled the scene without stopping to provide aid.

Moreover, authorities confirmed that a passenger of the vehicle that was struck by the suspect vehicle attempted to stop the hit-and-run vehicle but to no avail. Also, the same passenger was rushed to a hospital and was later pronounced dead.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
