2 People Dead in Twentynine Palms Auto Accident on State Route 247

TWENTYNINE PALMS, CA (November 21, 2023) – Monday morning, a devastating DUI crash on State Route 247 killed two people.

The incident happened at around 8:35 a.m. on State Route 247.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Jeep Cherokee drove over double yellow lines within the northbound lane and collided with a Kia Optima moments later.

As a result, responders pronounced a passenger of the KIA, a 33-year-old Twentynine Palms woman, dead at the scene. Then, paramedics transported the driver of the Kia, a 36-year-old Twentynine Palms man, to Hi-Desert Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Also, officers confirmed that the driver of the Jeep, a 39-year-old from Helendale, was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with major injuries.

Moreover, authorities believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
