1 Person Dead in Oakland Traffic Accident on East 27th Street and Fruitvale Avenue

OAKLAND, CA (December 7, 2023) – Tuesday morning, a devastating chain-reaction crash on East 27th Street and Fruitvale Avenue killed one person.

The incident happened at around 8:28 a.m. at the intersection of East 27th Street and Fruitvale Avenue.

According to reports, a southbound Mazda SUV traveling at a high rate of speed and straddling the double yellow lines to pass stopped traffic sideswiped a Dodge Journey that was stopped in the southbound lane. Then, the SUV rear-ended a BMW X-1 that was stopped in front of the Dodge Journey. Also, the force of the crash pushed the BMW to crash into an Audi A4 while a Toyota Highlander SUV broadsided the Mazda SUV and ended in the northbound lanes.

Moreover, responders rushed the female driver of the Mazda SUV to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Then, three occupants of the BMW, a 45-year-old woman and two juveniles, ages 12 and 15, self-transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Furthermore, paramedics transported the driver of the Toyota Highlander, a 42-year-old woman, to a hospital with minor injuries. Also, two occupants of the Audi, a 29-year-old man and a 4-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries while the 48-year-old woman driving the Dodge Journey was not injured.

As a result, the crash closed the intersection for more than two hours but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the authorities asked anyone with details about the crash to call police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570.
