1 Dead in San Jose Bicycle Accident on Monterey Road and Alma Avenue

SAN JOSE, CA (December 22, 2023) – Tuesday morning, a devastating bicycle crash on Monterey Road and Alma Avenue killed 1 person.

The incident happened at about 7:40 a.m. on Monterey Road and Alma Avenue.

According to reports, a 2019 white Ford van drove north on Monterey Road. Then, it turned into a parking lot south of Alma Avenue. However, the van hit an adult male bicyclist heading north in the bike lane.

SJPD revealed that the bicyclist lost control and crashed into a fire hydrant.

After the crash, responders took the bicyclist to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but was stabilized. However, a few days later, on Dec. 19, the bicyclist succumbed to injuries.

Meanwhile, the van driver remained at the scene and has been cooperative with the police investigation.

Also, the authorities haven’t disclosed the identity of the deceased due to pending family notification. Furthermore, the authorities urged anyone with information about the crash to contact 08-277-4654 or email 4206@sanjoseca.gov.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
