1 Dead in Cordes Lakes Vehicle Crash on Interstate 17 and Bloody Basin Road

CORDES LAKES, AZ (February 5, 2024) – Sunday afternoon, a devastating auto accident on Interstate 17 and Bloody Basin Road killed 1 person.

The incident happened at about 2:30 p.m. on the southbound Interstate 17 at Bloody Basin Road near Cordes Lakes.

According to the Mayer Fire District, a vehicle was located with heavy damage and was impaled by a guardrail on the passenger side.

Then, two people were pulled out of the crash. One of them succumbed to injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, another was airlifted to a hospital.

Then, the incident also led to the closure of the southbound lanes of Interstate 17 near milepost 260 for a few hours while crews worked at the scene.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
