RICHMOND, CA (December 19, 2023) – Sunday night, a devastating 2-vehicle crash on Interstate 580 and Richmond-San Rafael Bridge killed 1 person.

The incident happened just before 9:00 p.m. Also, the crash shut down all lanes in the westbound direction of Interstate 580 on the bridge while first responders dealt with the crash.

Initially, CHP thought that the crash involved only one vehicle. However, they clarified at 9:15 p.m. that there were two vehicles. Then, all lanes of the bridge reopened at about 11:30 p.m.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
