1 Dead in Tyler Auto Accident on 3000 Highway 31 E and SSE Loop 323

TYLER, TX (January 24, 2023) – Tuesday night, a devastating 2-vehicle crash on 3000 Highway 31 E and SSE Loop 323 killed 1 person.

The incident happened just after 6:00 p.m. in the 3000 block of Highway 31 East, just east of SSE Loop 323.

DPS Sgt. Adam Albritton revealed that one person died in the wreck. However, the identity of the deceased remained undisclosed due to pending family notification.

Smith County ESD2 PIO Nikki Simmons confirmed that the crash involved a white pickup and a passenger sedan, and an entrapment in one of the vehicles.

Chapel Hill and Jackson Heights VFDs both came to the scene, as well as Texas DPS and Smith County ESD2.

Also, the incident shut down both eastbound and westbound traffic for several hours, but as of 9 p.m. had reopened.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
