Guatay Man Dies after His Motorcycle Collides with Pickup Truck in Descanso
DESCANSO, CA (March 18, 2019) – A motorcyclist was killed following a traffic collision with a pickup truck early Monday morning in Descanso.
The fatal collision happened around 4:24 a.m. on Highway 79 at Old Highway 80.
CHP officials said a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 21-year-old Temecula man, was traveling southbound on Highway 79 approaching Old Highway 80 and stopped at a stop sign. At the same time, a Suzuki motorcycle was heading westbound on Old Highway 80 approaching Highway 79.
As the rider continued westbound, the Chevrolet pickup truck entered the intersection to make a left turn onto Old Highway 80 eastbound, violating the rider’s right of way. Due to the proximity of the two vehicles, the rider attempted to avoid a collision by laying the motorcycle on its side, CHP officials said.
Both the rider and his motorcycle struck the roadway and tumbled west, then struck the left side of the Chevrolet.
The rider, only identified as a 56-year-old man from Guatay, suffered a massive trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has been withheld pending family notification.
The Chevrolet’s driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
Intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
During this time of tragedy, we would like to extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family and friends of the victim. We hope they find strength and comfort as they grieve over their loss.
