33-Year-Old Sonora Man Struck and Injured by Driver Trying to Park near Mono Way
SONORA, CA (July 8, 2018) – A man was hospitalized late Sunday morning after he was struck by a vehicle attempting to park in front of a shopping center.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at about 11:50 AM in front of PriceCo Foods grocery store located at 13765 Mono Way in the Junction Shopping Center. 90-year-old Richard Williams, of Sonora, was parking his 2000 Chevrolet pickup when he accidentally hit the gas. The pickup jumped over the curb and struck 33-year-old Derek Sonnenfelt, also a Sonora resident.
Bystanders attempted to help Sonnenfelt, who was pinned up against the concrete storefront, until the arrival of emergency personnel. The pedestrian was airlifted to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto after suffering major injuries. Williams was reportedly unharmed from the collision.
The details concerning the liabilities of this crash are still under investigation, and no additional information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
