Derek Sanders Recovering, Suspect Arrested After Crash on Martin Way
Thurston County, WA (October 6, 2024) – Early Sunday morning, Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders sustained injuries in a crash on Martin Way.
Reportedly, A 29-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of multiple crimes after crashing into a car driven by Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders early Sunday morning.
After being released from Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Sanders shared an update, stating, “My passenger is OK, and I just got released from St. Peter’s Hospital for typical car crash injuries. My car, however, probably won’t make it.”
Sanders explained that around midnight Sunday, while driving on Martin Way, a vehicle swerved into the oncoming lane and attempted to turn in front of him, leading to a T-bone collision.
The driver fled the scene, dragging the car’s bumper down the road. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded, including Lacey police, who located the abandoned vehicle nearby.
A police dog later found the woman hiding in bushes, and she was arrested near Hensley Street Northeast at 12th Avenue, behind Winco Foods.
The woman, identified as “military” in Thurston County jail records, was booked on suspicion of hit-and-run with injury and driving under the influence.
