Derek Clayton McIntosh of Kneeland Injured in Fatal Collision on State Route 299 [Humboldt County, CA]

Humboldt County, CA (April 22, 2023) – At about 12:39 on Thursday, Derek McIntosh of Kneeland sustained injuries in a fatal collision on State Route 299.

Investigators said McIntosh was driving a westbound white Ford F–550 Ford service truck on the freeway, west of Lord Ellis Summit. At the same time, a 21-year-old McKinleyville woman was behind the wheel of an eastbound gray Hyundai Tucson on the same highway. 

The Ford and the Hyundai collided head-on and the Hyundai also collided into an eastbound 2020 Kenworth semi-truck trailer driven by Ryan James Noland of Shasta Lake. 

The Hyundai driver and her passenger, a 30-year-old female from McKinleyville were both declared dead at the scene. 

McIntosh incurred minor injuries while Noland was uninjured.

The CHP Humboldt Area office is investigating this traffic crash. Officers do not consider DUI as a factor, and all occupants were wearing their seatbelt when the accident took place.
