Derek Fanning Killed Ethel Crash
ETHEL, WA (August 3, 2019) – A motorcyclist identified as Derek Fanning died after a vehicle struck him on Highway 12 on Saturday, August 3.
The collision happened at 7:51 p.m. at milepost 74 of U.S. Highway 12. The area is one mile east of Ethel, a small town south of Onalaska, Wash.
According to reports, a 2008 Ford Escape SUV driven by a 48-year-old Onalaska man traveled eastbound on the highway. Then it failed to yield the right of way and turned left across traffic.
Fanning’s motorcycle, a 2010 Harley Davidson, drove westbound and crashed into the front passenger side of the SUV.
28-year-old Derek T. Fanning, of Longview, died at the scene, according to the state patrol.
The driver of the SUV suffered injuries and was taken to Providence Centralia Hospital.
It is not yet determined if drugs or alcohol played a role, according to the state patrol.
