Sheriff’s Deputy Fatally Injured near Point Reyes Station on His Way to a 911 Caller
MARIN COUNTY, CA (March 15, 2018) – A young deputy lost his life when his patrol car hit a tree off Highway 1, on Thursday morning.
The victim was identified as 24-year-old Ryan Zirkle, who was responding to a 911 call in the area, early Thursday. Zirkle lost control of his patrol car on Highway 1, just north of Point Reyes Station.
As he went to a left curve, the vehicle swayed to the right side of the road and collided with a tree, according to California Highway Patrol. The CHP, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Fire Department rushed to the scene and shut down the highway. It took about thirty-five minutes to retrieve Zirkle from the patrol car.
He was airlifted to Petaluma Valley Hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.
