Injuries Reported in Ector County Auto Accident on SH 302 and Marian Drive
ECTOR COUNTY, TX (September 19, 2024) – Tuesday morning, Deputy Justin Toombs suffered injuries in a crash on SH 302 and Marian Drive.
Initially, the authorities responded at about 6:30 a.m. to assist in a separate crash on SH 302 and Marian Drive.
Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis reported that between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., Toombs had positioned his patrol vehicle with its emergency lights on to direct traffic into the inside lane. A westbound Cadillac collided with the deputy’s unit, resulting in injuries to Deputy Toombs, a state trooper, and the Cadillac driver. All three were taken to Medical Center Hospital (MCH) for treatment.
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) indicated that the trooper was outside his vehicle at the time of the collision. Deputy Toombs is currently in stable condition, while the trooper, who was initially treated at MCH, was later airlifted to a hospital in the Lubbock area and remains in serious but stable condition.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
