Three People Hospitalized in Multi-Car Crash on I-225 at Tamarac Drive
DENVER, CO (February 21, 2018) – A wrong-way driver collided with five other cars on the northbound Interstate 225 at Tamarac Drive, around 10 AM on Wednesday.
According to reports, a single vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes in the 225 freeway, when it crashed into five other vehicles on the highway.
The damage was so severe, that the engine of the wrong-way traveling car was dislodged from the vehicle. Two individuals were stuck in their cars and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. Three people were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment; their condition is unknown.
Traffic was backed up for several hours on Interstate 25, the northbound 225, and overpass traffic was completely rerouted. Officials and crew members investigated the scene of the crash and cleaned up the wreckage from the six vehicles involved.
The Denver Police Department is investigating the multiple-car crash, and trying to identity the cause of the accident. They have yet to find out when and where the wrong-way driver entered the freeway in the incorrect direction. It is unclear whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident.
When entering a highway in an unfamiliar area, make sure to check from “Wrong-Way” or “Do Not Enter” signs. Wrong-way accidents usually occur on freeways, and are extremely dangerous due to the speed of the vehicles involved.
