One Killed and One Arrested in Fiery Semi-Truck Crash on I-70 at I-25
DENVER, CO (March 3, 2018) – Around midnight on Saturday evening, a fatal accident involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck occurred in the eastbound lanes of the 70 Freeway, near Interstate 25.
According to the Denver Police Department, the semi was headed east on I-70, when a pickup merged onto the highway and crashed into it. At least one of the vehicles hit a barrier, and the semi-truck caught on fire, killing the driver.
The driver of the pickup truck fled from the scene of the accident on foot, but was later arrested in Denver. He faces a vehicular homicide charge at this time.
The I-70 experienced an extended closure during cleanup of the scene and investigation. Both directions were blocked off near Interstate 25 for several hours overnight. The westbound lanes reopened around 5:30 AM, while the eastbound lanes didn’t reopen until around 3:25 PM.
Police officials continue to investigate the cause of the fatal and fiery accident. There is no current information on the identities of the individuals involved.
