51-Year-Old William Maheu Crashes Car into The Hornet Restaurant on Broadway and First Avenue
DENVER, CO (February 14, 2018) – A car crashed into The Hornet restaurant on Broadway and First Avenue on Valentine’s Day during the busy afternoon lunch rush.
William Maheu, 51, was speeding southbound on Broadway and making a left turn onto First Ave, when he crossed three lanes of traffic and hit a curb. He then hit a pedestrian on the sidewalk and rammed into The Hornet.
No one was seriously injured, according to Denver Police Department spokesman Doug Schepman. There was severe damage done to the doorway and window of the restaurant from the impact of the crash. This is the fourth time a car has crashed into The Hornet in the past twenty-two years. The owners plan to put up concrete blockers on the sidewalk to prevent this from happening for a fifth time.
Maheu was cited for reckless driving, careless driving, and no proof of insurance. He was not believed to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
