Dennis Steinbauer Hurt, Brian Lee Benovsky Arrested after Prescott Valley Hit-and-Run Crash
PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ (August 25, 2019) – A bicyclist identified as Dennis Steinbauer sustained injuries in a hit-and-run crash on Tuesday, August 20.
Prescott Valley Police Department responded at around 8:00 p.m. at the intersection of East Frontage Road and North Starlight Drive.
They discovered 72-year-old Steinbauer lying in the roadway next to a bicycle. Steinbauer sustained injuries including severe head trauma and loss of consciousness. As a result, paramedics airlifted him to John C. Lincoln Deer Valley Hospital in critical condition.
Witnesses told the police that they did not see the accident. However, they saw a vehicle leaving the location at a high rate of speed. The same vehicle had front-end damage and a broken windshield.
The investigation determined that the crash happened when the vehicle, driven by 49-year-old Brian Lee Benovsky hit the bicyclist and fled the area.
A short time after the collision, Prescott Valley Officers found Benovsky’s 1995 Honda Civic. In addition, it had front-end damage that matched the evidence collected at the crash site.
As a result, officers arrested Benovsky and booked him into Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Jail.
