Elderly Turlock Man Fatally Struck by Freight Train in Denair
DENAIR, CA (January 10, 2019) – A man was killed after being struck by a freight train Thursday morning in Denair, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The fatal incident happened around 10:49 a.m. at the westbound railroad crossings of Santa Fe Avenue and Zeering Road.
According to reports, the Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train was traveling northbound, approaching Zeering Road when an 80-year-old man Turlock man stepped onto the railroad tracks.
The man was seen by a witness walking eastbound on Zeering Road, ignoring the downed railroad crossing arms and the audible signal and crossed onto the tracks.
The man was thrown 30 feet upon impact and died at the scene. His name has been withheld pending notification of his family members.
The CHP completed their investigation and cleared the train and roadway just before 1:00 p.m.
