Joseph Sharpe Arrested after Hit-and-Run DUI Accident near Alta Mesa Drive
REDDING, CA (July 19, 2018) – A woman was injured early Thursday morning and a man was arrested following a suspected DUI crash on Rancho Road.
As per reports, the collision took place shortly before 2:00 AM near Alta Mesa Drive. A 1996 Honda Accord, driven by 24-year-old Redding resident Joseph Sharpe, reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign. The vehicle then proceeded to crash into a rock wall of a home on Rancho Road.
The police arrived at the scene and found 19-year-old Dena Bommarito injured inside the sedan. She was transported to a hospital with minor injuries. Meanwhile, Sharpe attempted to flee the scene on foot but was detained a short distance from the site.
A DUI specialist determined that Sharpe had been driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. Authorities also stated that Sharpe was on probation for a previous DUI and had a suspended license. He was arrested for felony DUI causing injury, felony hit-and-run, making threats to an officer, providing false information, and other charges.
No other information has been released to the public at this time, as officials continue their investigation.
