35-Year-Old Mountain View Man Fatally Injured in Multi-Car Crash near Sutliff Road

ESCALON, CA (June 2, 2018) – A man was killed early Saturday morning after multiple vehicles collided on Highway 120. The San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 35-year-old Demetrio Martinez-Sanchez, a resident of Mountain View.

As per reports, the collision took place at 5:52 AM on Highway 120, just west of Sutliff Road. A silver GMC Yukon, driven by Martinez-Sanchez, was heading east on the highway, while a gray Subaru and a gray Ford F-250 were traveling westbound.

The Yukon was reportedly seen attempting to pass a vehicle by speeding through the opposite lane. The Subaru’s driver noticed the oncoming vehicle, veered off the road to avoid contact, and slammed into an almond tree on the north side of the road. The Ford, which was directly behind the Subaru, was unable to avoid the head-on collision with the GMC.

The impact of the collision caused the Ford to strike a power pole off the road, while the Yukon was rotated 90 degrees and came to a rest facing south.

Martinez-Sanchez was ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining critical injuries. Two other people inside the Yukon suffered unspecified injuries and were taken by Manteca District Ambulance Service to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the Ford received first aid from Escalon emergency medical technicians before being flown to a hospital, while the Subaru driver was reportedly unharmed.

Affected areas were temporarily shut down for approximately three hours to give way for CHP’s investigation. McDowell Tow Services was also present at the scene to remove the vehicles from the crash site.

No additional information has been released to the public at this time.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Demetrio Martinez-Sanchez. May he rest in peace.
