Teen Motorcyclist Injured in Collision on La Amatista Road
DEL MAR, CA (March 25, 2018) – An 18-year-old male motorcyclist sustained multiple injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Camino Del Mar, on Sunday night.
The collision occurred around 6:49 PM on Camino Del Mar and La Amatista Road, when a 16-year-old girl with a provisional driving permit was driving a Ford Escape southbound on Camino Del Mar with her grandmother in the front seat. She made a left turn in front of the motorcycle that was headed north at the time.
Authorities believe that the Ford Escape violated the motorcycle’s right of way, causing the motorcycle to crash into the passenger side of the car.
The motorcycle and its rider ended up pinned underneath the SUV. The teen motorcyclist was taken to the Scripps La Jolla Hospital Trauma Unit with multiple injuries to his left side. It was also reported that he underwent surgery, but his injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
Witnesses of the collision are urged to contact Cpl. Brenda Sipley at the Sheriff’s North Coastal Station, by calling (760) 966-3500.
