Police Investigate Fatal DUI Crash on East Speedway Boulevard [Tucson, AZ]

Tucson, AZ (October 5, 2023) – Thursday morning, 70-year-old Deidree Ann Markin died in a DUI crash on East Speedway Boulevard  and North Dodge Boulevard.

The crash happened on Oct. 5 at 6:21 a.m.

According to officials, Markin was crossing southbound and northbound East Speedway Boulevard at Dodge Boulevard in a marked crosswalk with the High Intensity Activated CrossWalk (HAWK) signal activated.

Markin was crossing the street when she was struck by the Nissan, which was travelling westbound in the shoulder lane on Speedway Boulevard.

It was determined that the driver of the Nissan was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and drunk driving were the primary causes of the crash.

Investigation remains ongoing to determine appropriate charges for the driver.
