Tacoma Occupants Injured in Highway 77 Deadly Collision
Scott County, MO (October 4, 2024) – Debra Buell, 62 of Oran, and Meryl Hopper, 29 of Chaffee, were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 77 Wednesday afternoon.
It was about 4:40 p.m. when the vehicle crash happened three miles south of Chaffee.
MSHP said Meryl Hopper was driving a southbound 1996 GMC Sierra on the highway when the vehicle rear-ended a 2017 Toyota Tacoma.
The Tacoma then crashed into a 2006 Freightliner that crossed into the center line and was hit by a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Debra Buell.
Unfortunately, the responders declared Hopper and Buell deceased at the scene.
The Tacoma was occupied by four Oran residents who were injured in the collision.
The 33-year-old driver of the Tacoma was airlifted to a hospital in St. Louis. The three passengers were all transported to St. Francis Medical Center with moderate injuries.
Investigators said Hopper was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash and all others had their safety device on.
The Freightliner sustained minor damage while the three other cars were totaled.
