Injuries Sustained in Multi-Car Accident near Bishop
INDEPENDENCE, CA (February 22, 2019) – 68-year-old Deborah Ann Yank from Oceanside was in a three-vehicle collision just south of Bishop, Friday afternoon.
Officials received calls about the accident around 12:30 p.m. First responders arrived to the scene at 395 Fort Independence Travel Plaza.
California Highway Patrol stated Yank was traveling around 70 MPH. Soon after, she was hit by 52-year-old Sonia Rivera from Santa Clarita. Rivera was driving a 2005 Toyota Sienna and struck her while making a turn.
Yank tried to avoid the vehicle, however she was unable to do so in time. As a result, her front tire blew off her vehicle. Due to the collision, she lost control and hit a 2018 Toyota 4-Runner driven by 47-year-old Toby Bech-Nielsen from Newhalf.
State officials arrived shortly after and transported Yank to Renown Regional Medical Center. She sustained major injuries which required further medical evaluation.
