Injuries Sustained in Multi-Car Accident near Bishop

INDEPENDENCE, CA (February 22, 2019) – 68-year-old Deborah Ann Yank from Oceanside was in a three-vehicle collision just south of Bishop, Friday afternoon.

Officials received calls about the accident around 12:30 p.m. First responders arrived to the scene at 395 Fort Independence Travel Plaza.

California Highway Patrol stated Yank was traveling around 70 MPH. Soon after, she was hit by 52-year-old Sonia Rivera from Santa Clarita. Rivera was driving a 2005 Toyota Sienna and struck her while making a turn.

Yank tried to avoid the vehicle, however she was unable to do so in time. As a result, her front tire blew off her vehicle. Due to the collision, she lost control and hit a 2018 Toyota 4-Runner driven by 47-year-old Toby Bech-Nielsen from Newhalf.

State officials arrived shortly after and transported Yank to Renown Regional Medical Center. She sustained major injuries which required further medical evaluation.

No more details surrounding the accident have been disclosed at this time.

Always drive safely and cautiously when behind the wheel. When making any type of turn, assure that you yield for traffic before proceeding. Never assume other vehicles will give you the right of way. Doing so can prevent yourself and others from being involved or injured in an accident.
