Fatal Vancouver Accident on 18th Street
VANCOUVER, WA (July 30, 2019) – Two people died while two others suffered injuries in a multi-vehicle accident on 18th Street on July 26.
The Vancouver police responded at NE 18th Street and NE 187th Avenue around 11:45 p.m. After that, they located two motorcycles and a BMW SUV.
According to authorities, the BMW made a left turn on to NE 18th Street from NE 187th Street. However, both motorcycles traveling on NE 18th hit the BMW in the driver’s side door.
“I heard the motorcycles go by and then the crash happened. It was a substantial crash, there was no skidding not nothing just a big boom,” Modesto Garza said.
Before the collision, Modesto Garza heard motorcycles speeding back and forth while he worked in his garage.
“The first time I saw them, they catch you off guard, you can’t really [see them], you hear the motorcycle. However, when you look up you just see a flash of light,” Garza added.
A few moments after, the collision happened.
“I went out there and ran to the corner and that’s when the little girl was out there screaming,” Garza stated.
The 8-year-old girl also asked help for her mother.
“She was yelling ‘I don’t want to lose my mom, my dad already died,” Garza added.
After making sure that the girl is fine, Garza then went to aid the mother.
“The gentleman who hit, it was obvious there was nothing we could do for him. For the mom we checked the pulse and felt a faint pulse but she wasn’t responsive,” Garza revealed.
However, the female BMW driver and a 23-year-old motorcycle rider both died at the scene as a result of the impact.
Responders transported the 8-year-old and the other motorcyclist to a hospital with injuries. However, there has been no update on their current condition.
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked on preliminary duties. However, the roadway has since reopened.
Troopers also currently believe that speed and alcohol played a role. However, more details will eventually be released once available.
