David Smith Dies, Another Injured in Crash on Rialto Avenue [Rialto, CA]

Injury in Rialto Avenue Chase Crash

Rialto, CA (February 12, 2022) – On Thursday, 26-year-old David Smith of San Bernardino died, while another driver sustained injuries in a chase crash on Rialto Avenue.

The incident started near the intersection of Merrill Avenue and Spruce Avenue.

An officer conducted a traffic stop on a black Infinity Q50 for speeding. Smith initially yielded but fled when the officer approached, which led to a pursuit.

Reports said that Smith attempted to ram his vehicle to another officer’s patrol car.

The pursuit led to the intersection of Rialto Avenue and Cactus Avenue. Smith ran through a red light and collided into four other vehicles.

Unfortunately, he died at the crash scene.

Moreover, a driver of one of the vehicles that was struck sustained injuries.

Officers said Smith was on parole due to a 2019 felony conviction for evading an officer.

Also, the authorities added that they located a stolen semi-automatic handgun, illegal 30 round magazine and narcotics in his car.

During this tragic time, we would like to send our sincere sympathies to the family and friends of David Smith. Our thoughts are with you during this painful time.

Let Us Prevent Traffic Accidents

Indeed, driving is essential for many in order to move about in their lives, however, it is also one of the most dangerous activities performed daily.

That is because auto accidents are a major public health threat. Traffic accidents are a leading cause of death for individuals ages 5-64.

Thus it is indeed crucial that everyone drives defensively in order to avoid traffic accidents as much as possible.

Here are some of the things that we can do to practice defensive driving:

  • Always drive at a controllable speed.
  • It is also important not to assume you know the other driver’s intention.
  • Always positively react to other drivers.
  • This one, we should never neglect. Yield at intersections, even if you have right of way.

Most importantly, stay focused on the road. Remove all distractions such as mobile phone use, unstrapped toddlers, etc.
