Chico, CA (June 11, 2020) – On June 10, David Sims, a resident of Los Molinos, died in a car accident with a big rig on Highway 99 at the intersection of Neal Road.
As a result of the fatal crash, the highway closed through Wednesday northbound and southbound for more than 12 hours.
Immediately, responders transported 5 individuals to the hospital. Cal Fire-Butte County also extricated one person from a vehicle.
After authorities investigated and cleanup crews finished, The California Highway Patrol revealed a semi-truck trailer incited the accident.
Indeed, the driver of trailer, Jobanjit Singh, could not stop his vehicle in time for a red light, where traffic stood still.
Therefore, he slammed into the back of a stopped Honda Accord, which then collided into the vehicle ahead of it.
Subsequently, a total of six vehicles were involved.
Furthermore, the driver and passenger of the Honda Accord died from the impact of the big rig.
Later, the Butte County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as David Sims, 55, as well as Lupe Ortiz, 55.
