60-Year-Old Motorcyclist Airlifted to Hospital after Collision near Central Avenue
MCKINLEYVILLE, CA (October 2, 2018) – On Tuesday morning, a man sustained major injuries in a motorcycle crash on Anna Sparks Way. The victim was later identified as 60-year-old David Karr.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision took place at approximately 9:44 AM near Central Avenue.
As per reports, Karr was riding his 1984 Honda V65 Magna motorcycle southbound on Central Avenue, just north of Anna Sparks Way. He accelerated his motorcycle as he entered the right turn only lane of the road, hitting a 2018 Ford Edge, driven by 55-year-old Michael Lafferty of Canton, Massachusetts.
In an investigation, the police found that Lafferty had positioned his car in the designated “forward only” lane and turned on his right turn signal. When the traffic turned green, Karr crashed his motorcycle into the right rear of the Ford as Lafferty turned to drive west up Anna Sparks Way.
Due to the impact of the collision, Karr was ejected from the motorcycle. The Arcata-Mad River ambulance responded to the scene and transported him to the Mad River Community Hospital for treatment of major injuries. Officials said he was later transported to the Mercy Medical Center in Redding, but there is no update on his current medical condition.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the CHP, which states DUI was not a factor. No further details have been disclosed to the public at this time.
