David Garcia Identified, Korina Machuca Involved in Alleged DUI Crash in Fresno
FRESNO, CA (October 29, 2019) — An alleged DUI driver struck and killed a bicyclist on South Cherry Avenue Sunday night.
The incident occurred near East North Avenue at around 9:00 p.m. according to the California Highway Patrol.
Reports indicated that 21-year-old Korina Machuca was northbound on South Cherry Avenue when she struck 69-year-old David Garcia of Fresno. Machuca’s vehicle then swerved, hit a nearby fence, and spun off the road.
Garcia, who died on impact, may have been homeless as per CHP. He was wearing dark clothing on a street that was poorly lit.
On the other hand, officers responding to the crash said it smelled marijuana inside Machuca’s vehicle. The driver also showed signs of intoxication. Drug recognition experts determined that she was possibly under the influence of marijuana. Machuca works near the area and was on her lunch break when the collision occurred.
