David Barajas and Steven Mahoney Hurt in Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 198 [Kings County, CA]

Kings County, CA (December 4, 2023) On Sunday morning, 37-year-old David Barajas, 63-year-old Steven Mahoney, and 3 of their passengers were hurt in a tragic crash on Highway 198 that killed a 24-year-old driver.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the tragic wrong-way collision happened around 2 a.m. on Highway 198.

Reports say that a westbound Toyota Corolla, driven by the 24-year-old driver, collided with the eastbound Ford F-250 driven by Barajas. The head-on collision sent Barajas’ Ford overturning and landing on Mahoney’s eastbound Kia Soul.

Officials say that the Toyota burst into flames after the crash and the driver was declared dead at the scene.

Medics say that Barajas was airlifted to the hospital while his 2 passengers, who were also injured, were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Meanwhile, Mahoney and his passenger suffered minor injuries and were also transported to the hospital.

CHP is investigating the fatal wrong-way crash and have not released additional information at this time.
