1 Dead in Mill Valley Car Accident

MILL VALLEY, CA (January 18, 2019) – A man died after being struck by a vehicle which was trying to avoid a falling tree on January 16.

The deceased was identified as 52-year-old Darren Malvin of Mill Valley. According to the sheriff’s officials, Malvin contacted 911 and reported power lines knocked onto the road from the rainstorm at the Laverne Avenue and North Ferndale Avenue.

As Malvin waited for the arrival of the Mill Valley Fire Department, a car pulled in front of his residence. Malvin was talking with the driver inside the vehicle through an open window when they both heard tree branches breaking and falling to the ground around 8:30 p.m.

Malvin ran to the front of the car for cover from the debris. However, the driver also accelerated to prevent his vehicle from being hit by the falling tree. The vehicle hit Malvin and knocked him to the ground.

The paramedics administered first aid and transported Malvin to Marin General Hospital where he later died.

The crash is still being investigated by the California Highway Patrol and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office’s Coroner Division are investigating the death.
