Two Motorcyclists Hospitalized after Accident near Parrotts Ferry Road
TUOLUMNE COUNTY, CA (May 19, 2018) – Two motorcyclists were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after their motorcycles collided on Springfield Road near Parrotts Ferry Road. Authorities identified them as 56-year-old Darryl Fraser of San Jose and 31-year-old Daniel Rauer of Rohnert Park.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at 12:25 PM. A 2004 Harley Davidson, driven by Fraser, was heading south on Springfield Road at approximately 40 to 45 mph while passing other southbound motorcyclists.
Rauer, who was on his 2001 Harley Davidson, was among the motorcyclists that Fraser tried to pass. He was traveling on the right side of the southbound lanes at approximately 35 mph when Fraser attempted to move his motorcycle near him. This resulted in the right side of Fraser’s bike to collide with the left side of Rauer’s.
The impact of the collision ejected both riders onto nearby bushes along the road. Fraser was airlifted to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for the treatment of the major injuries, while Rauer was transported to the Adventist Health Sonora before being transferred to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with moderate injuries.
Investigators confirmed that alcohol and drugs were ruled out as factors in the collision. It is still unknown which driver is at fault at this time. An investigation is ongoing to determine the main cause of the crash.
When driving, it is crucial to always be careful of motorcyclists, pedestrians, and bicyclists on the road. Motorcycle accidents are extremely dangerous because of their lack of protection and lightweight bodies. By paying attention to your surroundings and driving within the speed limit, dangerous collisions can be prevented.
