Daniel Podunovich Dead, Adolfo Subiria Involved after Bakersfield Semi-Truck Accident
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 23, 2019) — Authorities identified the 41-year-old Montana man killed in a semi-truck crash as Daniel Ralph Podunovich.
According to officials, the accident occurred on Highway 99 at South Union Avenue on Friday, June 21.
Just after midnight on Friday, Podunovich drove a Kia Sedan that stopped on the freeway for an undetermined reason. After that, a big rig traveling south in the same lane did not notice the vehicle. As a result, the semi truck slammed into the back of the Kia.
CHP said that the driver of the big rig, 49-year-old Adolfo Subiria, did not see the parked Kia until the last minute. He said he tried to swerve but collided into the car.
The driver of the Kia succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene, CHP stated.
At this time, the cause of the incident is still under investigation. However, officers believe that alcohol and or drugs played a role in the crash, according to CHP.
